Unknown contractor networks create two separate questions: is this the expected person, and can this network make a direct peer connection? The waiting room answers the first. A preflight and fallback network answer the second.
Before the appointment
- Send one room link and ask for the contractor's display name, arrival time, device, and expected camera sources.
- Choose one host to watch the waiting room. Waiting room is on by default.
- Ask the contractor to test the actual site network and prepare a hotspot or wired alternative.
- State that this is scheduled remote expert support, not an emergency or life-safety channel.
Admit the person, then the camera
Match the name and job before admitting. Say hello, confirm the role, and verify audio. If a phone, USB camera, or capture-card feed joins separately, approve it as the intended source before anyone relies on its view. Do not admit unexplained camera participants.
If the connection fails
Repeated admission attempts will not fix hard NAT. Free has no TURN relay, so switch to the tested hotspot or wired option, or evaluate a customer-operated bring-your-own relay on a paid plan. Visit connection help and use the field kit checklist for the next job.
