    Remote production setup checklist

    “I 4kChat because the client and I need to judge the real feed — not a compressed proxy.”

    Print it, tick it, the day before. Nothing exotic.

    Gear

    • Hero camera with clean HDMI (or SDI) out, or a good USB camera.
    • USB capture device that shows up as a camera in the OS.
    • One laptop per camera, current Chrome, Edge or Safari.
    • Optional supporting angles: extra USB cams or phones opened on the room link.
    • Not yet: IP cameras over WHEP / HLS / MJPEG / RTSP — bridging is coming.

    Uplink

    • Wired Ethernet on the hero-camera machine.
    • Speed test from the actual location, not the office.
    • Remember each viewer receives their own stream from the sender.
    • Free has no TURN: if a client network is strict, have a hotspot fallback.

    Room

    • Waiting room on (the default). Host admits every camera and person.
    • Seat count: Free 4 · Pro 12 · Cinema 32 — cameras count as participants.
    • Client told to pin the hero camera full-screen; big screen by cast/mirror only (no Smart TV app).
    • Colour / focus check planned — see the tip.

    Expectations

    • Resolution follows both ends. 4K is not guaranteed.
    • Review room, not a switcher or a VMS.
    • Browser today; native apps in development.

    Small-shop directors, DPs, and clients judging focus, colour, and framing on a live feed — not a screen-share proxy.
    What you need
    A modern browser, a camera, and a solid uplink. For a big screen, cast or mirror from your phone or PC.
    Seats
    Free up to 4 · Pro up to 12 · Cinema up to 32.
    Resolution
    Follows your hardware and network. 4K/8K is not guaranteed on every call.
    Connectivity
    Direct peer-to-peer. Free has no TURN relay, so some strict networks (hard NAT) may not connect.
    Smart TV
    Cast or mirror only. There is no Smart TV store app.
    Apps
    Native apps are in development. The browser is the path today.
