A bigger image can make a guest's expression easier to read, but the television is a receive display, not the calling device. Join the room from a phone or PC browser and cast or mirror that display to your TV. There is no Smart TV store app to download.
Set up the receive view
- Open the call on a browser device, verify that the guest has been admitted, and make their video prominent.
- Cast or mirror the browser screen to the TV. If your setup cannot cast reliably, use a compatible cable or adapter from the computer.
- Place your camera near the guest's displayed face, so looking at the guest also puts your eyes near the lens.
- Keep the browser device powered and awake; check the TV connection and audio routing before the guest arrives.
Keep the sound from coming back
If TV speakers feed into an open room mic, the guest may hear an echo. Prefer headphones or a tested low-volume speaker/mic arrangement. Ask the guest to speak for ten seconds while you listen on their end and on yours. Use the guest join guide to handle arrival first.
Expect the source, not a promise
A 4K television cannot create detail the camera or network did not deliver. Resolution depends on both ends, so do not promise a guaranteed 4K picture. Native apps are in development; the browser remains the way to call today. For the end-to-end setup, see the white paper.
