    Checklist

Podcast / interview setup checklist (both ends)

“I 4kChat because my guest and I need to look like we share a room — and keep clean local sources.”

Print this list or send it to the guest before the interview. Mark each end separately; a great host setup cannot repair an untested guest mic. The browser is the call path today, with native apps in development.

    Host: room and gear

    • □ Start the room in advance, copy the invitation link and agree who will admit the guest. Waiting room is on by default.
    • □ Put the camera at eye level. If receiving on a big TV, cast or mirror the phone/PC browser; there is no TV store app.
    • □ Count seats: host, guest, co-host and every extra camera participant. Free 4 / Pro 12 / Cinema 32.
    • □ Use a stable uplink, preferably wired, and close heavy background uploads. Check the actual received picture; 4K is not guaranteed.

Guest brief: send a day ahead

    • □ Send one browser room link, start time and an early arrival time. No guest account or install is required.
    • □ Ask for headphones, a charger, a quiet room and a mic test; explain browser camera/mic permissions.
    • □ Put soft light in front of the face, not a bright window behind. Frame at eye level and keep the background steady.
    • □ Try the same network they will use for the interview. Free has no TURN; if hard NAT blocks the call, prepare a hotspot or other network.

    When the guest arrives

    • □ Guest checks devices in the lobby and requests to join. Host verifies the name and admits them.
    • □ Both sides confirm they can hear and see each other. Speak over each other briefly to test echo; adjust headphone or room-speaker levels.
    • □ Compare face light on both ends. Try a short question and answer, then listen for noise reduction artifacts or clipping.

Record and collect, if on Pro or Cinema

    • □ Free has no local recording. On Pro or Cinema, confirm each side can save WebM to its own disk and has space.
    • □ Each side starts its own local recording; clap or count for sync and confirm the indicator before the interview.
    • □ At the end, stop on both devices, locate both WebM files and play back a sample. Guest sends theirs to the editor afterwards.
    • □ Label and back up the original files; 4K Chat has not uploaded a cloud mixdown for you.
